I was recently on a quest to find a cms solution to redesign and maintain the LXLE website. At the time I first posted LXLE I used a simple photoblog script to handle the images and manage basic text. I wasn't expecting much traffic and figured it would be more for friends, family and personal use more than anything. However, that wasn't the case. Site traffic picked up and I realized that a more comprehensive management system was in order.
After installing and playing around with a few well known CMS solutions like Wordpress, Joomla, OCPortal, etc etc. It became apparent that these systems were overly heavy with far too many configuration options for what I needed. They also tend to be a bit sluggish, at least on the average persons webhosting solutions. So the search was on.
I started checking out some really lightweight CMS solutions, which felt right for LXLE considering its all about being lightweight yet fully functional and that was what I wanted in a CMS script. Light yet robust and feature packed. Kinda of a tall order but was managed very well once I discovered GetSimple CMS. It's quick and powerful.
"GetSimple is an XML based, stand-a-alone, fully independant and light Content Management System. It has features that every website needs, but with nothing it doesn't. GetSimple is truly the simplest way to manage a small-business website." ~GetSimple CMS website
- For small to medium sites; Easy updating without rarely used features.
- XML based script so no mysql. Which is nice if on a shared database.
- You can "Undo" almost everything, complete undo feature.
- A very easy to learn CMS user interface.
- Tons of extension and active community.
- Plentiful and simple theme customization.
- Incredibly simple installation process.
After installation I got familiar with the system which was very easy to do and began building the new site you see here today. I'm sure there is much more GetSimple CMS has to offer and am looking forward to those discoveries. I would confidently recommend this CMS solution to anyone that may be looking for an easy, lightweight, capable CMS script.
